The pictures here are taken a long time ago,
I think in 1973, when we were 2 and 5 years old.
Our mother sew us the sailor suits and she made
a sailor dress for herself. I remember (from photos,
I guess) that we wore our sailor outfits on a trip to
Denmark. In Denmark the sausages are red.
My brother and I played as friends most of our childhood, and parts of our adolescence. I don't think we ever grew apart, really. But when I was almost twenty, I went for a journey. That journey meant an end to childhood for me, as well as a farewell to my hometown Vänersborg. As we grew older, we also grew apart, at least geographically. I moved to Lund in the south of Sweden. He stayed in Vänersborg and then opted for Gothenburg, and later Stockholm, where he now lives with his girlfriend Eva. But let me go back in time a few years: 1970: Stefan was born by our mother Marita 1973: We travel to Italy for the summer. I try to catch a lizard and its tail falls off. 1976: Stefan starts kindergarten. Up 'til then, our mother had stayed home with us, while our father Sven-Olof, so strong, had been working. Not that mom did not work, of course, she did, but at home. 1977: Stefan starts school. 1984: 2 days before Christmas, I hit my brother on the head. He starts to cry and rips open the package he had bought for me. I have never felt so lousy, not before, not after. I love him when I think of that incident and i don't like myself at all. Not at all. 1988: Our grandfather Henry dies of cancer, a few years after our grandmother Karin, who died of the same disease. A few years later, our other grandfather Vilgot dies, also of cancer. Our only living grandparent now is Greta. She is very dear to us. She lives in the countryside. She used to run a store in Gillanda with grandpa Henry. 1989: Stefan finishes school. Both Stefan and I had a couple of jobs between High School and university. We both worked at factories. We both travelled. We both worked at kindergartens and enjoyed it. We were both ideologically to the left. We both enjoyed SF movies. We both loved "The Last Dragon", shitty as some may call it. 1993: Stefan starts to study at the University 1995: Stefan starts to study Journalism. 1997: Stefan graduates with a B.A. in Journalism. 1997: Stefan moves to Stockholm and starts to look for a job. Now, maybe I remember a few of the years incorrectly. Surely I missed some important years and events. But the fact remains. He is my brother and the one I love most in the world.
